Biography

I am a senior legal practitioner with more than 18 years of experience across multiple areas of South African law, with a distinct emphasis on labour law, civil litigation, corporate and commercial law, aviation law, and mining and regulatory compliance.

I have acted as counsel and advisor in a wide range of matters, including the drafting of complex legal opinions, litigation before superior courts, statutory interpretation, and regulatory enforcement, with a particular depth of expertise in employment law and the chairing of disciplinary proceedings. My clients have included major state-owned entities such as PIC, National Consumer Commission, PRASA, IDC, and Foskor, where she has chaired disciplinary tribunals and provided decisive procedural guidance consistent with principles of natural justice (to mention but a few)

I am a qualified commercial arbitrator trained through the Arbitration Foundation of Southern Africa (AFSA) since 2014, and I hold a Diploma in Alternative Dispute Resolution from the University of South Africa (UNISA). My dispute resolution experience is extensive, including both private and institutional arbitration proceedings.

My litigation experience includes appearances and instructions in Labour Court, High Court, Supreme Court of Appeal and the Constitutional court and administrative forums, particularly in matters concerning dismissals, employment equity, collective bargaining, contractual disputes, and judicial reviews. I have a decent working knowledge of the Labour Relations Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act, and Employment Equity Act, underpinned by years of practical implementation and advisory work although having since practiced labour law more than 4 years ago.

I equally bring strong regulatory and board-level experience, currently serving on the boards of:

The South African Airways and the South African Civil Aviation Authority, where I have completed several aviation law and IATA certifications, and contributes legal insight into aviation safety, compliance, and governance matters; and

The State Diamond Trader, where I provide oversight and legal input on matters of mining law, state custodianship of mineral resources, and sector-specific policy compliance.

I am equally well-versed in consumer protection law, having advised extensively on the National Consumer Act, with focus on commercial accountability and administrative justice.

I am highly regarded for my integrity, legal acumen, and professionalism. I demonstrate at all times, a calm and measured temperament, underpinned by a strong work ethic, a principled approach to adjudication, and a deep commitment to the transformation and constitutional imperatives of the South African legal system.
