Colin Roy van Onselen began his legal career with an LLB degree from the University of Pretoria, completed in 1992. This foundational qualification marked the start of a distinguished journey in South African law. He went on to complete his articles at Adams & Adams (1993–1994), and was admitted as an attorney of the High Court in 1995.
In 1996, Colin transitioned to advocacy, gaining admission as an advocate of the High Court of South Africa. He has practiced as an advocate ever since, specializing in personal injury and insurance law. His expertise and dedication have earned him membership in both the Tshwane Society of Advocates and the General Council of the Bar.
Colin furthered his academic credentials with an LLM from the University of South Africa (1996–1997), reinforcing his commitment to legal scholarship and excellence. His career includes acting as a judge in the Gauteng North Division of the High Court on several occasions since 2018, reflecting his respected standing in the legal community.
In 2025, he added accredited mediation to his skill set, completing a five-day course tailored for legal practitioners. This complements his litigation experience with a strong foundation in alternative dispute resolution.
