Biography

Icho Kealotswe-Matlou is an advocate admitted on 19 September 2018, with legal practice experience dating back to 2005. She is a member of the Tshwane Society of Advocates and the Johannesburg Society of Advocates.
Her practice is general but places particular emphasis on space law (especially the prevention of the weaponisation of outer space) and administrative law, alongside experience in aviation law, telecommunications law, constitutional law, contract law, insolvency, building and construction law and labour law.
Icho holds an LLM (magna cum laude) in Advanced International Law from the University of Pretoria, completed in collaboration with the Institute of Air and Space Law at the University of Cologne. Her research focuses on international space governance, reflected in her dissertation on equity principles in relation to the Outer Space Treaty.
She has contributed academically, including a chapter titled “The Rule of Law in Outer Space” in the book “WAR AND PEACE IN OUTER SPACE” (Oxford, 2021), and published work on arbitration in BRICS countries through the Arbitration Foundation of Southern Africa (AFSA).
In addition, Icho serves on various boards and national councils and has presided over the African Space Law Moot Courts since 2015.
